“Hi…” I knocked, unsure if I’d find Kristen or someone else. I put an ear to the door. I heard nothing. Scooting down to the end of the hall, I hit a T, another hallway with numerous doors left and a single door on my right. I went right twenty feet, then turned into a partially-open door. I only saw the back of the pink striped shirt, Kirsten down on the ground, knees under her, rocking back and forth. I heard a whimper. “Are you okay?” I could feel a reverberating thump in my ear. Moving around her, I saw a body, a motionless girl lying on her back. “What happened?” I asked, kneeling down next Kirsten, looking into her eyes, tears welling up. She only shook her head, staring down at the girl. I glanced back at the girl, her eyes closed and mouth slightly open. “Holy Mother of Jesus.” I spotted a small hole in the girl’s forehead, just a smidge of dried blood around the edges. Suddenly, a throng of people clamored into the doorway. “Oh my God!” the producer exclaimed between deep breaths, at least a dozen people behind her stretching their necks. “We have a dead body. Gunshot to the head.” I looked down at the girl no longer breathing. My heart jumped. I knew this girlfrom last week. “Dear God, it’s Courtney,” an accented man’s voice said. The musical star had suffered a wicked death.

NEW RELEASE........
Book #12 The Bradens, Love in Bloom Series #20

Only one woman could hurt ultra-alpha bad boy Jake Braden.
Only one woman can heal him.
Fiona Steele has arrived…

Fiona Steele has a great career, strong friendships, and a loving family. To an outsider, her life appears happy and fulfilling. But the one thing that’s missing is true love, and the only man Fiona wants is the one she can’t have, sinfully handsome and seductively intense Jake Braden—the man whose heart she broke, which she has regretted ever since.

As an LA stuntman, Jake Braden’s at the top of his game. He’s hired for all the best movies, hooks up with the hottest women, and lives an unencumbered lifestyle where his needs come first—and where he doesn’t have to examine his life too closely. Except when he visits his family in his close-knit hometown of Trusty, Colorado, where he spends his time avoiding Fiona—the only woman who knows who he really is.

When Fiona’s best friend is hired to act in Jake’s movie, Fiona jumps at the chance to try to win him back. There’s no denying the white-hot attraction burning between them. With every encounter, Fiona hopes Jake can’t resist falling back into the love they once shared. But her well-orchestrated rendezvous doesn’t go over well with the brooding heartthrob. Living in the fast lane is perfect for a guy who’s buried his emotions so damn deep he’s not sure he can remember how to feel—and he’s not sure he ever wants to.

THE BRADEN COUSINS are one of the newest additions to the LOVE IN BLOOM series.

Initially I was at a lost as to what to write for this review.  This feeling was not based on my not liking this book as that was far from the case.  It was based on my doubts that I would be able to write about another Melissa Foster book without repeating my thoughts from previous reviews.  I recently began reading her books and I became hooked on her Love in Bloom and Seaside Secrets series. I  Have not had the chance to read all the books in the Love in Bloom series, but those that I read I enjoyed immensely. It was while reading these books that I was introduced to Jake Braden and to say I was intrigued by him is an understatement. I could not wait for his story to be written. As such I was glad for the opportunity to be a part of this tour, which provided me with the chance to read and review Crashing into Love.

Crashing into Love tells the story of former high school sweethearts Jake Braden and Fiona Steele. These two were hopelessly in love with each other and had their lives planned out. However, circumstances led to Fiona ending the relationship ultimately breaking Jake’s heart.
Jake took the break-up hard. In a bid to exorcise her from his heart he began living life in the fast lane. He thrived on taking risks, both in his professional and personal life. Now, sixteen years later, Fiona has returned and is determined to win him back. He, however, is determined to avoid her at all cost. Will Fiona succeed in winning back Jake’s love? Will Jake be able to let go of past hurts and rekindle his love with Fiona?

I fell totally and completely with Jake, despite his whoring ways. It was a welcome change to see the vulnerable side of the male protagonist. It shows that men may appear like they are tough, but deep down they are just as susceptible to emotional pain as their female counterpart.  Jake tried to get away from his feelings for Fiona but it was a futile effort.  I loved Fiona’s determination. She is willing to fight for what she wants even if it meant facing rejection from the man she loves.  I loved that both parties accepted that their love of sixteen years ago was not the same today. I love that Jake is willing to change his risky ways. This proved how much he has grown.

Crashing into Love is a beautiful story about second chances. I am a firm believer in giving second chances as such I was rooting for Jake and Fiona.  I loved every moment spent reading and I believe this is a fitting end to what I consider to be a great series.  If you have never read Melissa Foster’s work and you are looking for a new to sink your teeth in then the Love in Bloom would be a great start.
It should be noted that each book can be read as a stand-alone.

Dasan Garret is a disappointed man.  Recently divorced and just returned from a traumatic tour of duty in Iraq, he moves back to his hometown of Portland, Oregon only to find himself unexpectedly alone.  His old friends are all gone, moved away, locked up, or dead.  Women seem to occupy a parallel universe.  With no community and few prospects, he takes a job as a night watchman and withdraws ever deeper into the shadows of his mind.

Until one day when he meets Edenia, and she lights up his world like a bolt of pure energy.  She seems perfect: vibrant, gifted, kind, sexy, a sudden and unlooked-for reprieve from the sad ruin of his life.  And yet there remains a nagging sense that something isn’t right.  Could it be that he is merely slow to trust the happiness she offers him?  Or is there something behind that waver in her laugh, that fleeting look of sadness in her eyes?

The mystery deepens when one day Edenia disappears.  Dasan believes he must find her in order to go on living.  But to find her again, he will have to confront a devastating truth about her life, and his.

Whenever I take up a book written by Cynthia Eden I know I am in for a thrilling ride and Broken did not disappoint. It was what I was expecting and more! She is one of those authors whose book I would read without having prior knowledge of what it’s all about.

Broken is the first book in the Lost series and it’s off to a fantastic start. Lost tells the story of Gabe Spencer and Eve Gray. Gabe is an ex-navy seal and the founder of LOST (Last Option Search Team). The goal of the team is to find missing persons that the authorities had lost any hope of finding. The team was formed because Gabe had experienced a loss of his own and as such he wanted to help families who have suffered under similar circumstances.  Eve is a woman who has endured torture and near death simply to wake up not being able to remember her past.  In a bid to uncover her past, she sought the services of the LOST team.

I enjoyed reading about all the characters, but my favorites are Gabe and Eve.  They both suffered pain in the past making them easy to relate to.  I found Eve to be strong yet vulnerable. She has grit and determination and is motivated to uncover her past, even if it meant that doing so could be deadly.  I thought Gabe was a bit overly protective of Eve to the point of being possessive. I understand that he could not help being attracted to her, but I felt he should have been more careful as he could have been setting up himself for heartbreak in light of the fact that Eve’s past was an enigma.  I do believe he allowed his feelings to cloud his judgement at times.

The romance took place very rapidly.  The attraction between them was instantaneous and electrifying. They did not have time to get to know each other before falling in love.  Well, in light of the fact that Eve had no memory this would have presented a challenge. In my view I believe that more stress was laid on the suspense, even so it was nicely balanced out with the love story.

From the minute I began reading I was pulled into the story. The prologue was so intense that I could not help but to continue reading. I literally could not put the book down.  Lost is the kind of story that gives you chills and will have you jumping at the faintest of sounds.  There was never a dull moment with this story. It had a lot of twists and turns that will keep you guessing at every page turn. Just when I thought I figured out who the killer was the author threw in a twist that had me second guessing myself. However, when the truth was finally revealed, I thought to myself I knew it.

Lost is an explosive, fast paced, psychological and suspenseful read.  It will keep you up at nights and have you talking about it for some time to come.

BROKEN by Cynthia Eden – Excerpt
“Do you think I’m a con artist or a victim?”
“I think you’re a woman who has been hurt.” No denying that. “One of my team members, Wade Monroe, is contacting the Montgomery family. We’ll get DNA from them and find out—
“If I’m Jessica.” There was hope in the words. Enough hope to break his heart.
Gabe nodded.
“When will we know?”
It would take a few days, even with the strings that he could pull. “As soon as possible,” he said, not wanting to give her a specific timetable.
“Thank you.” Then, just like that, she was across the car, giving him a tight hug. “Thank you.”
His arms wrapped around her, an instinctive response. She smelled faintly of flowers, a sweet scent that teased his nose, and her body was soft against his.
She tried to pull away, as if realizing what she’d just done.
For an instant he was tempted to hold her, to keep her close.
She’s a client. Focus.
He let her go, but his body ached.
“I um I should get inside.”
Yes, she should. While he was still clutching tight to his control. The control that said he shouldn’t push her. Shouldn’t want her so much. Not when she’d already been hurt so badly.
Her fingers reached for the door.
“Let me,” he said, voice rumbling, and Gabe climbed from the Jag. In seconds he was on the passenger side, opening her door for her. She rose, and her body brushed against his.
He stepped back. Distance. He seriously needed to put some distance between then. But even with some fast steps back, he could still smell that light and sexy scent that clung to her body. And he still wanted her.
“Your shrink asked me a lot of questions about you,” Eve told him as she stood temptingly close.
Gabe inclined his head. “I’m sure—
“I think she wanted to know why I respond so much to you.”
Oh, hell, she’d just said He cleared his throat even as part of his body surged in quick response to her. “It’s a tense situation, you’re—
“You don’t look at me as if I’m a victim.”
He stopped talking.
“I mean, you know what I am, but you still look at me and seem to just see me as a woman.”
“Others see you the same way.” Doc Tyler sure did. Bastard.
“It’s different with you,” she murmured as she stepped even closer to him. Her head had tilted back so she could look into his eyes. “I don’t know what I’ve felt for other men before.”
Why did the idea of others have his body knotting with tension?
“But I know that when I see you, I want.” A hushed confession. “I just I needed to tell you that.”
And he needed to make his self-control a hell of a lot stronger. Her lips were just inches from his, and he wanted her mouth beneath his. Wanted her lips open. Needed to taste her.
“You’re the first man I’ve wanted since I opened my eyes in that hospital.”
He could actually feel his control splintering. Client. Cli—
“You probably don’t want me. I—I might not be your type.”
Now her gaze had fallen, as if in embarrassment. Had she really just asked if she was his type? She was probably every damn man’s type.
“But you make me feel normal again, so I had to tell you—
His fingers curved under her chin. “Eve
Her smile was a little too big. Too bright. “I don’t think I can handle anything else right now, I’m” She pulled away. Stumbled onto the sidewalk. “I just wanted to tell you how I felt,” she told him again.
Then she walked into the shelter, her steps hurried. As if she were running.
From him.
He stared after her. She wanted him.
And she was so fucking beyond his reach.

Excerpt: Chapter 1
“What the hell is that?” The new patient in the ER had an erection almost the size of a man’s arm. It tented the sheet covering him, and I thanked my lucky stars that I wasn’t on the front lines in the triage area. I could still hear the giggles from behind a curtain.

“This one’s yours, Jules. I’m not touching that with a ten-foot pole.” My co-worker and best friend’s humor didn’t escape me. The two of us were working the graveyard shift, and from the look of it, Chris was not going to help. In fact, bringing all the nurses’ attention to the patient may have only hindered any progress. Fortunately, she decided to leave. “I’m pretty sure I have a patient who needs an enema. I think I’d rather work that end than the one you’ll be working on.”

I highly doubted that. Chris worked the male nurses better than strippers did metal poles.

“Everybody out!” I pointed my finger to the door, but no one moved. Their heads were peeking one over another, trying to catch a glimpse of the patient’s prominent injury. My mind was already running amok as I wondered what the heck was underneath that sheet. “This is not Grey’s Anatomy, people, so unless you’re helping I don’t want to see you.”

They finally scattered back to their duties. On Saturday nights, or should I say Sunday mornings, we usually got the weekend party leftovers, and most of our patients were passed out drunk, stoned, or heavily medicated. Comprehension in any of those states was minimal. This guy on the bed in front of me was totally out. His face was covered in paint – green, red, yellow, blue, you name it and it was there. What kind of a party had he gone to?

I peeled back the sheets with hesitation. The rest of his body was painted in the same mix of colors as his face. My gaze rested over his hip, where underneath the smeared paint I could make out the black lines of a tattoo, though its shape remained mysterious. I wondered whether the patient had any clothes on when he came in. I sighed and removed the sheet down to his knees. The nurse beside me had her mouth completely open and was focused on what first appeared to be a cannon – a huge cannon made of a cylinder that imprisoned the patient’s enlarged penis.
“Holy crap!” I said under my breath. How do you get your cock stuck in a pump?

The Other Side of Quiet Book Tour

The Other Side of Quiet

Mrs. Childs's creative writing students are expected to keep personal journals for self-expression. But when clues from a murder investigation cause police
authorities to confiscate the students’ journals, writing intended to be private is no longer. Words meant to liberate now condemn. And an innocent writing
project, meant to empower students, as well as rescue Mrs. Childs from her own personal tragedy, now open deep conflicts within the class.

The Other Side of Quiet by Tara C Allred is filled with murder, mystery, tragedy and drama.  The main focus the story is on Mrs. Childs and her creative writing class. She requires her class to maintain a personal journal where they can express themselves. However, the unthinkable happened. The journals were confiscated by the police to aid in a murder investigation. As such, what was intended to be private has now become public knowledge.

For me this was a unique, interesting and inspirational read. I was given inside knowledge of each student’s hopes, aspirations and concerns. I learnt about their family life and the everyday challenges they faced being a teenager.

The relationship that existed between Mrs. Childs and her students was inspirational.  I loved that she was able to impact their lives in a positive way.  I was also impressed with how she was able to learn from them and used the lessons learnt to aid in changing the direction of her life. For me this was a testament to the effective teacher she was.

This story will have you turning the pages as you will be eager to know what’s going to happen next.  If you are looking for a unique and inspirational read with a little mystery tied into the mix, then The Other Side of Quiet would be the perfect choice for you.

Note this is a story that can be read by readers of all ages.
